The Greater Poweshiek Community Foundation serves as an umbrella organization and financial manager for other nonprofit organizations. By banding together these organizations achieve some efficiency of scale while maintaining independent operating Boards.

The Grinnell Historical Museum was built in 1895 as the home for the local merchant J. H. McMurray, with all the luxuries of the time. It is now a museum operated by the Grinnell Historical Museum Society, which is dedicated to preserving the community’s link with the past. Docents provide free tours to groups and individuals, describing the provenance of the furnishings and appliances and their use in an early 20th Century household. Among the unique artifacts is the Wooton desk of J. B. Grinnell, a founder of the community. Volunteers also provide programs highlighting Iowa history and help citizens…
The Community Education Council seeks to provide unique opportunities for community education that would not otherwise be available in the Grinnell community.
The Iowa Transportation Museum is a nonprofit corporation established to explore the evolution of transportation in Iowa, making it come alive to enhance understanding of how transportation systems and workers contribute to the culture and quality of life.
Kids Against Hunger is a national, nonprofit organization with a chapter in Grinnell. The local chapter recruits volunteers to purchase and package food that is shipped to starving people around the globe. Recent shipments have been sent to Nicaragua, Tanzania and Liberia.
The new $9.5 million 26,000 square ft. Drake Community Library opened in November 2009, located at Park Street and Fifth Avenue, adjacent to the historic downtown business district and Grinnell College. Total dollars were raised through a unique funding partnership between private donors, businesses, foundations, corporations, civic groups, the City of Grinnell and Vision Iowa. http://www.grinnell.lib.ia.us/
The Grinnell-Newburg Dollars for Scholars is a locally operated and supported chapter. Operated by an all-volunteer Board of Directors, the purpose of Dollars for Scholars is to expand access to educational opportunities by involving and assisting donors in the support and encouragement of educational achievement. The Grinnell-Newburg Dollars for Scholars is a chapter affiliate of Scholarship America, a nationally recognized nonprofit student aid service organization.

Mission Statement: Uniting community members to ensure all children develop into skilled readers through sustained initiatives and research-based actions. When community members and schools unite to form strategic alliances, determine actions and implement research-based initiatives around early literacy, young children will acquire the necessary abilities required to develop their full potential as independent, skilled readers.
The Grinnell Mutual Aquatic Center is scheduled to open onJune 1st, 2010 for the use and enjoyment of all area residents. The City of Grinnell is devoting $3 million in revenue from a local option sales tax to replace the existing municipal pool, which has deteriorated through many years of heavy use. Private donors, foundations, businesses, and other governmental entities are being asked to help an additional $2 million cost - to convert the new pool into an Aquatic Center. To provide activities, communications and other services for those who attended schools in the Grinnell-Newburg Community School District and other members of the Association, 2. To foster and support the educational and related activities to the Grinnell-Newburg Community School District and 3. To support the efforts of the Grinnell-Newburg Community School District Scholarship Program, and encourage contributions to that fund.
